ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Supreme Court granted the Pakistani Election Commission’s (ECP) appeal against the June 12 ruling of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
In order to decide on petitions pertaining to national and provincial assembly constituencies in the general elections scheduled for February 8, the high court established election tribunals.
The electoral board appealed the ruling to the highest court, arguing that it was the rightful owner of the ability to establish tribunals, which the LHC was not able to exercise.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Qazi Faez Isa, led a five-member bench that included Justices Amin-ud-din Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi. On September 24, the bench pronounced the unanimous ruling, which was reserved.
