Sources told Geo News on Thursday that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to keep Babar Azam as the team’s white-ball captain even after the mega tournament, despite Pakistan’s team’s fairly disappointing performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
Babar will continue to serve as captain, although given the team’s dismal tournament results, it is anticipated that some changes may be made.
The Men in Green have lost both of their World Cup matches thus far, including their June 9 matchup with India, their bitterest opponents.
In their June 11 match against Canada, the team likewise had trouble and could only manage to chase down the 107-run mark.
Now since their advancement into the Super 8 stage is contingent on the results of other teams’ matches, they face the possibility of losing the competition early.
The PCB decided to proceed with the same white-ball skipper after Chairman Mohsin Naqvi softened his position and urged the public to cheer on the cricket team in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in an interview with Geo News.
“It is not appropriate to discuss [the matter] further at this juncture,” Naqvi stated in an exclusive interview with Geo News on Wednesday outside the Parliament House. “The consultation is ongoing.”
