According to officials, New York Jets cornerback Tae Hayes was taken into custody early on Sunday morning in Alabama on suspicion of possessing marijuana.
Shortly after five a.m. local time, Hayes was taken into the Morgan County Jail and later released on a $300 bond. AL.com states that he was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana.
The Jets sent a statement to the New York Post that read, “We are aware of the situation, and we will refrain from further comment as it is a pending legal matter.”
Hayes played football at Decatur High School in Alabama before becoming a standout defensive back at Appalachian State. He began his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars after going undrafted in 2019. Since then, his position on multiple rosters has fluctuated.
Prior to signing with the Jets in 2023, Hayes played for the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, and Baltimore Ravens.

Hayes also played for a while with the United Football League’s Birmingham Stallions. He played with the USFL championship-winning Stallions in 2022.
In January, he inked a reserve/future deal with the Jets, expecting to compete for a roster position.
