PESHAWAR: Terrorists’ attempt to attack the Cantonment Board Bannu (CBB) in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was thwarted by security personnel, sources said Geo News on Monday.
Those with knowledge of the incident said that at 4:40 a.m., terrorists detonated a device on the route that connected the supply depot to Bannu Cantt’s wall.
Inside a car, the terrorists set off an improvised explosive device (IED). According to the police, individuals who were hurt were sent to the hospital at district headquarters.
According to the sources, as the terrorists attempted to enter the Cantt, the security personnel cornered them and stopped them in their tracks.
They further mentioned that after the attack, the security personnel started a clearance operation in the region.
As per the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) Annual Security report, the country’s rates of violence and casualties fell precipitously in the second quarter of 2024, coinciding with the occurrence.
The nation had a 12% decrease in overall violence, according to the data, with 380 fatalities reported as opposed to 432 in the first quarter of this year.
In the second quarter of 2024, Pakistan had up to 240 acts of terror attacks and counter-terror operations, which led to 380 violence-related deaths and 220 injuries among civilians, security officials, and criminals.
According to the report, there were 236 deaths among security force members and civilians.
Nearly 92% of all deaths occurred in the bordering provinces of KP and Balochistan, which are both in close proximity to Afghanistan.
