Quick action at the crash site
A private jet traveling from Los Cabos, Mexico to Austin, Texas crashed onto a motorway near Laredo after reporting serious mechanical trouble. The plane went down close to Laredo airport and burst into flames on impact.
Nearly a dozen bystanders and emergency responders rushed in to help. Using tools like a shovel and a sledgehammer, they forced open a door and pulled trapped passengers out before the fire spread further.
Casualties and survivors
Authorities confirmed that six people were onboard. One person died in the crash, while five others survived and were taken to hospital. Officials said the survivors are in stable condition. The identity of the person who died has not been released.
Vehicle struck during impact
Investigators said the aircraft also hit a vehicle during the crash on Loop 20 motorway. It is still unclear which part of the plane struck the vehicle.
Emergency response and injuries
Thick smoke and fire covered the wreckage, according to videos shared online. Five first responders were treated for smoke inhalation after helping at the scene.
Road closure and investigation
Loop 20 remains closed as investigators continue their work. The probe involves local police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the National Transportation Safety Board.
Officials expect the road to stay shut while they examine the cause of the crash and the mechanical issues reported before impact.
