Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has offered his thoughts on the controversy surrounding Indian players’ refusal to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts as India and Pakistan prepare for a possible Asia Cup final match on Sunday.
Politics shouldn’t be reflected in sports.
While it’s reasonable to feel strongly against Pakistan, Tharoor told ANI that cricket shouldn’t be used as a political football.
“In my opinion, if we had such strong feelings against Pakistan, we shouldn’t have played them at all after the choice to play was made. However, if we are going to play, we should shake hands and play the game as intended. Even during the Kargil War in 1999, we took this action.
