Despite being notified by the federal government as IG Islamabad, reports claim that the Punjab government led by Maryam Nawaz has declined to remove Ali Nasir Rizvi from his position as Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Lahore.
Since previous IG Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan was fired last week and told to report to the Establishment Division, the important role is still unfilled.

It is important to note that following the appointment of Ali Nasir Rizvi, a junior officer among these officers, as IG Islamabad, up to three DIGs of the Islamabad police went on leave.
Following the shift in leadership within the Islamabad police, a number of senior officials, including DIGs Awais Malik, Hassan Raza, and Shoaib Janbaz, were placed on leave.
