With two minutes remaining, the Ravens recovered possession of the ball and the Chiefs, who are trying to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls, were ahead 27-20.
In less than thirty seconds, Lamar Jackson led the Ravens to the Chiefs’ 10-yard line, where they had three endzone opportunities.
After two missed throws, Isaiah Likely grabbed the third pass toward the back of the end zone, and it was declared a touchdown.
Instead of kicking to win the game, Ravens coach John Harbaugh motioned for his team to attempt a two-point convert.
Replays, however, revealed that Likely landed with his toe on the endline, disqualifying the score and letting the Kansas City crowd—which included Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce’s girlfriend—to celebrate a 27-20 victory.
The Chiefs have defeated the Ravens five times in their six meetings since their quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and quarterback Josh Jackson, entered the league. The 2024 season opener was a rematch of the AFC Championship game from the previous season.
In that time, the Chiefs—whom Jackson referred to as “our kryptonite”—have made it to four of the last five Super Bowls and won three of them, while the Ravens have twice concluded the regular season with the NFL’s best record but have not advanced to the championship game.
