Prosecution of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed for the deadly “Rust” movie shooting started on Thursday, accompanied by harrowing audio of the victims being shot and charges of “sloppy” safety procedures.
On October 21, 2021, at Bonanza Creek Ranch, Gutierrez-Reed was employed as an armorer on the “Rust” set. The revolver that actor Alec Baldwin was holding fired just before the shooting started, killing cameraman Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin had been practicing a cross draw. At the time of the shooting, the 24-year-old armorer was outside the church.
Hutchins, who sustained a chest wound in the shooting, can be heard talking to someone in bodycam footage that was played in court on Thursday.
“Deep breath, Halyna,” a voice that wasn’t familiar to me murmured. “A deep inhale. There you go.
The video also shows Souza, who was shot in the shoulder, howling in agony and saying, “Ah f—, f—,” in the background. Lt. Tim Benavidez of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department testified that Souza was the source of the yelling.
