Turki Alalshikh, the head of the nation’s General Entertainment Authority, revealed the date.
When the opponents squared off earlier this month, Usyk prevailed on a split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
That bout took place in Saudi Arabia as well.
The rematch clause in the Fury-Usyk contract has been widely reported in the run-up to the fight.
“The world is going to witness another historic battle.”
If Fury prevails in December, he will exact revenge for his first defeat in his 36-fight career; if Usyk loses, he would experience his first defeat. Fury has won 22 of his fights to date.
Mr. Alalshikh posted on social media on Wednesday, stating: “The rematch is now set for December 21, 2024, during the Riyadh Season.
“The world is going to witness another epic battle. We’re still committed to boxing lovers. We hope you find it enjoyable.”
“I spoke to him [Fury] after the fight and obviously when he got back just to make sure he’s OK,” Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said to Sports this week. Despite his disappointment, he was incredibly perceptive.
“Both boxers stated they wanted the rematch, so we’ll move forward from there. The rematch was agreed upon before the first bout even happened.
“It was an incredible battle between two flawless gladiators who left nothing on the mat in the most significant fight of the twenty-first century.”
