According to Business Recorder, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved an extra Rs1 billion for Pakistan to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which is slated for October 15–16, 2024.
Pakistan, as the 2024 chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (SCO-CHG), will host the summit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced to the Economic and Cooperation Committee (ECC) on September 11, 2024.
Hosting this important event, the MoFA stressed, would underline Pakistan’s crucial role as a major regional player dedicated to peace, negotiation, and diplomacy. Additionally, it would improve the nation’s standing and reputation for pulling off such a significant event so soon after.
The MoFA stated that careful planning and adequate money are required to host a summit of this magnitude.
