According to a recent scientific study, the human body, like all living things, gives off a mild light while it is alive and then goes out when it dies.
The study, which was published in The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, focuses on a phenomena termed biophoton emission, or ultraweak photon emission (UPE).
Faint light particles called biophotons are released by living cells and are thought to be a byproduct of metabolic activities that involve reactive oxygen species (ROS). These light particles are invisible to the human eye and can only be detected by specialized equipment like electron multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) cameras because they fall between 200 and 1,000 nanometers in wavelength.
Methods of research
Researchers from the University of Calgary National Research Council of Canada carried out the investigation.
