The evening celebrated amazing accomplishments in the arts while showcasing the best of British and Irish culture.
Mr. Bates Vs. The Post Office won in the television category, and indie rock group The Last Dinner Party won in the popular music category.
The comedy Fern Brady won, and Molly Manning Walker’s coming-of-age drama picture How to Have Sex, which she also directed, took home the film gong.
The Times breakthrough award went to opera vocalist Aigul Akhmetshina, while Boy Blue’s body of work received recognition for dance.
Melvyn Bragg, a lawmaker, writer, and broadcaster whose career spans six decades, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jim Moir, better known as Vic Reeves, is an artist and comedian, and he created a statuette for each winner.
“The completed pieces are bronze sculptures standing roughly one foot tall. They’re heavy too, at four kilograms, so they will fit perfectly on a mantlepiece…or used as a doorstop,” Moir remarked in reference to making the awards.
