According to the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, Singapore continues to be the fifth least corrupt nation in the world, with Denmark coming on top, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
Since the ranking was originally released in 1995, Singapore is still the only Asian country in the top 10. Prior to this, the nation well-known for its tourism placed third in 2018 and 2020, fourth in 2019 and 2021, and fifth in 2022 and 2023.
With ratings ranging from 0 (extremely corrupt) to 100 (very clean), the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) unveiled the new index for 2023, which ranks nations according to their perceived levels of public sector corruption.
Thirteen different external sources provided the data.
Denmark scored 90 points.
Finland (87).
Australia (85)
Norway (84)
Singapore (83)
Germany (78), Luxembourg (78), the Netherlands (79), and Sweden (82).
Singapore received the same score of 83 in 2023 as it had in the previous year.
With regard to public sector corruption, the CPIB reported that the situation “remains firmly under control” in Singapore, emphasizing the fact that the number of cases is comparatively low.
“Public Perception Surveys regularly conducted by CPIB indicate strong public confidence in our national corruption control efforts,” it stated.
Singapore is the best Asian country out of 142, having been ranked third for the lack of corruption in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2023.
Singapore was ranked first out of 16 economies in the 2023 “Report on Corruption in Asia” by the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy.
