ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced Wednesday that Afghan nationals who had joined the army in Pakistan had been fired from their positions, according to The News.
The minister made these comments during an interview with a local media outlet.
During the interview, Asif stated that during his earlier tenure as defense minister, he signed two or three files to remove Afghan people who served in the army.
When asked about the ranks of the officers serving in the army at the time, Asif mentioned that they included a captain and a lieutenant.
“This happened about two to three years ago after which they were disposed of,” he said.
According to Asif, terrorists are currently living on Afghan soil, with the exception of 3,000-4,000 brought from Afghanistan by the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
He went on to say that the National Assembly had a briefing on the subject, and that no one came to the state level afterward.
“We do not want to set any new rules with Afghanistan, but we should break clean with the past 30–40 years as we cannot afford it,” he went on to say.
