This week, the 34-year-old left the Warriors after 13 years to join the Mavericks.
Between 2015 and 2022, Thompson—who was selected by the Warriors with the 11th overall choice in the 2011 draft—went to six NBA Finals and took home four championships.
However, the five-time All-Star shooting guard has had injury issues recently. Between 2019 and 2021, he missed nearly two years of play due to issues with his knee and Achilles.
Thompson’s contract with the Warriors was set to expire in June, but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement, even though teammate Stephen Curry lobbied on Thompson’s behalf.
It’s like a whole new beginning coming here,” Thompson remarked.
Sensing wanted once more, like though I’m really valuable… I can’t help but be motivated to get out and get shoots up after this press conference.
There were moments last year when “it was tough” and not “as joyful as it was in the past,” Thompson continued, making reference to his tense relationship with the Warriors.
