During the 2-2 Group B draw, there were chants regarding the murder of Serbians.
Jovan Surbatovic, the general secretary of the Football Association of Serbia, has demanded that the worst penalty be applied.
“What happened is scandalous and we will ask [European governing body] Uefa for sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition,” he said to the Serbian state-owned network RTS.
Serbia, who are in Group C, lost to England 1-0 on Sunday to start the competition.
In response to Uefa’s decision on Wednesday to revoke Kosovar journalist Arlind Sadiku’s credentials, Surbatovic declared that he was “sure they will be punished”.
During the England match, Sadiku gestured to Serbian supporters with a double-handed eagle, a nationalist symbol. The gesture, which is eerily similar to the eagle on Albania’s national flag, has the potential to exacerbate tensions between ethnic Albanians, who comprise the great majority of Kosovo’s population, and Serbian nationalists.
“We will demand from Uefa to punish the federations of both selections,” Surbatovic stated.
“We do not want to participate in that, but if Uefa does not punish them, we will think how will we proceed.”
The Serbian FA released a statement in which it said that it had drawn attention to the “shameful joint chanting” in a letter to Uefa general secretary Theodore Theodoridis.
