Still experiencing the affects of Super Typhoon Ragasa, the Philippines was hit by a powerful tropical storm on Friday that forced hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate and resulted in at least three verified deaths.
Severe Tropical Storm Bualoi, which is moving west by northwest at continuous speeds of 110 kilometers per hour, has caused buildings to fall and trees to be uprooted, killing three persons, according to civil defense officials in the Bicol area of southern Luzon.
In one province, the storm tore the roof of a church where the evacuees were taking refuge, forcing them to hide under pews.
“Around 4am, the wind destroyed the door, the windows, and the ceiling of the church,” said Jerome Martinez, a municipal engineer in the Masbate province on southern Luzon island.
