In the American League Wild Card Series, the Detroit Tigers are on a roll. They defeated the Houston Astros 5-2 on Wednesday, taking the best-of-three series.
After falling behind 1-0 at the beginning of the seventh inning, Houston took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning. But a double play by Kyle Tucker ended the rally, and the tenacious Tigers were back in the game against what might be the best bullpen in the history of the league.
After Detroit reached base twice in a row with one out and runners on the corners, Ryan Pressly’s wild pitch knotted the game. pushed through a two-out walk.
With a single down the left-field line, Andy Ibanez cleared the bases and gave Detroit a 5-2 lead.
Detroit went with a full bullpen game, as seven different pitchers took the rubber for the win.
Hunter Brown was selected by Houston, and he pitched 5⅔ innings of one-run ball. Good things usually happen when you pass the ball to Pressly and Hader. Wednesday, though, was an anomaly.
