There have long been rumors that Bill Belichick was prepared to walk on from Tom Brady for years.
Though Brady, the team’s great quarterback, won a Super Bowl in his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Belichick appears to have granted his request before 2020.
In the meantime, Belichick and the New England Patriots failed to make the postseason in three of the four years following Brady’s death.
At the conclusion of this season, the head coach and the Pats mutually split ways. However, Belichick appears unlikely to be on an NFL sideline for the first time since 1974, even if there are plenty of other jobs available, some of which he auditioned for.
Naturally, as their tenure came to a conclusion, Brady and Belichick’s friendship deteriorated. Belichick’s tough approach may have been effective for a dynasty, but for the last four seasons, quarterback Mac Jones and the Pats have not benefitted from it at all.
And according to Tom Brady Sr., that hubris contributed to the dynasty’s demise.
“Bill is a hard man. His system is military. The generation is different now. “Bill is an incredible coach,” Brady Sr. stated to the Boston Globe. “However, he has terrible interpersonal skills. The bottom line is that.”
“How many times has he stated that he wants to win without Tommy, back in 2015 or 2016? He had no idea what he was losing when he left Tommy behind. More than simply a quarterback is gone from your team. There are moments when ego gets in the way. With Bill, I believe it did. He stated, “Now that he’s in this position where he’s been crucified by everyone for the past few years, a lot of luster has fallen off his rose.”
