In the midst of an ongoing controversy over remarks made by MP Lee Anderson, the former minister urged his party leader to appoint an impartial advisor on Islamophobia and honor his pledge to interact with the Muslim community.
Rehman Chishti, a Tory MP, told Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge on News that Mr. Sunak stated he was “committed” to interacting with the community and that “we will work together on this if I become prime minister” during the previous leadership race.
The former foreign minister, who previously declared his intention to run for the Conservative Party leadership, also chastised Mr. Sunak for not appointing an impartial adviser on Islamophobia, something that Theresa May and David Cameron both accomplished when in government.
Mr. Chishti stated that since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict four months ago, there have been over 2,000 instances of anti-Muslim hate crimes, citing data from the Tell MAMA organization.
