Gilgit-Baltistan saw a 90% decrease in visitor arrivals this year, according a report sent to the prime minister’s office.
A significant drop in both domestic and foreign visitors was noted in the report. One million domestic and more than 20,000 foreign visitors came to the area last year. Only about 270 foreign climbers made it to Gilgit-Baltistan this year.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was provided with information by the Gilgit-Baltistan administration, which confirmed that the tourism industry was still impacted throughout the current season.
Avalanches, rockfalls, and bad weather led many climbers to call off their excursions. Only a few dozen people made it to the top of Gasherbrum I, Nanga Parbat, and K2.
