KARACHI: Chaudhary Abbasullah, a Karachi-based trader, has filed a written complaint with Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Riffat Mukhtar, alleging that Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain illegally detained him for personal reasons.
The issue was brought to light on Tuesday when CCTV footage of Abbas’s “arrest” outside his Gulshan-e-Maymar mansion surfaced.
In his complaint to the Sindh police chief, the trader alleged that he was apprehended on March 6 by 8-10 people in two CTD mobile vans “without number plates” and transported to Garden Police Station, where he was confined in a private cell.
He claimed that they bound him “with chains like a terrorist” and covered his head and face.
According to Abbas, the purported reason for the illegal custody was that SSP Hussain phoned him in January, asking for his assistance in obtaining a bank account to transfer some money that he couldn’t move to his own since he was a “public servant”.
“He stated that he had sold a piece of land to another person and needed my help in getting him a bank account of another person to deposit the sale proceeds of the land as he could not deposit the same in his personal accounts because he is a public servant and is going to receive such a large amount, being the sale proceeds of land the latter stated.
