In a phone chat with Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz on Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau raised alarm over Israel’s planned offensive in Rafah, in southern Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to push into Rafah, Gaza’s southern tip, where more than half of the territory’s 2.3 million population have sought refuge to avoid an Israeli onslaught farther north.
According to the White House, US President Joe Biden warned Netanyahu on Monday that an Israeli military action in Rafah would exacerbate the disorder in Gaza, and they agreed that officials from both sides would meet in Washington to address the situation.
