WASHINGTON: In response to trade pressure from Washington, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly expressed support for Chinese and Russian leaders, while US President Donald Trump said Monday that India has offered to lower its tariffs on US imports to zero.
Trump tweeted on his Truth Social platform that the US-India relationship is “one sided,” adding, “They have now offered to cut their Tariffs to nothing, but it’s getting late.” They ought to have taken action years ago.
Trump’s remarks, which come after the imposition of total taxes of up to 50% on Indian imports and have sparked concerns about the future of the US-India relationship, were not immediately addressed by the Indian Embassy in Washington.
