US President Donald Trump announced Friday that a suspect in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah university has been apprehended, capping a protracted manhunt that Trump called a “heinous assassination.”
Kirk was shot by a sniper at a speech at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday, and his killer has been evading police and federal officials for over twenty-four hours.
In an interview with News, Trump stated, “I think we have him,” and added that the suspect had been turned in by someone who knows him.
Earlier, US officials released photos of a person of interest and claimed to have located the bolt-action rifle thought to have killed Kirk.
