On Monday, US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit for at least $15 billion against the New York, four of its reporters, and publisher Penguin Random House, alleging libel and defamation as well as reputational harm, according to a court filing from Florida.
A 2024 Penguin book titled “Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success” and a number of New York Times stories, including an editorial before the 2024 presidential election that declared him unfit for government, are cited in Trump’s lawsuit.
“Defendants maliciously published the Book and the Articles knowing that these publications were filled with repugnant distortions and fabrications about President Trump,” the suit filed in the US District Court, Middle District Florida, stated Monday.
