In a confrontational, comprehensive speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump criticized international leaders harshly and called for a shift away from climate change programs and a reduction in worldwide migration.
Trump, who frequently attacked the UN during his first term as president, returned to his former ways with the 56-minute speech, which was a rebuke to the global organization. When he left the room, leaders greeted him with courteous applause.
In the midst of Israel’s most recent Gaza offensive, he denounced efforts by friends to support a Palestinian state and encouraged European countries to implement the same set of economic sanctions he is suggesting against Russia in order to stop the conflict in Ukraine.
