Ty Pennington’s desire to “live to the fullest” stemmed from his near-death illness.

After a near-death encounter with an abscess on his throat, Ty Pennington provided fans with an update on his condition.

“I’m doing great,” Pennington declared to news, over eight months following his hospital stay. The wonderful thing about being close to death is that it garners a lot of attention. Being so loved feels wonderful.”

“I have another one planned. No, I’m not serious,” he said.

In 2023, Pennington experienced a “very dramatic” intubation and emergency surgery after an abscess in his throat caused his throat to close. Following his near-death encounter, the “Rock the Block” celebrity stated that he discovered the meaning of living life “to the fullest.”
