With the announcement of an extra £1.2 million (Rs45.4 crore) in anticipatory flood response funds for Sindh, the UK has now provided £2.53 million (Rs95.8 crore) in humanitarian aid to Pakistan this year.
The British High Commission said in a press release on Thursday that the assistance is intended to shield over 400,000 people across the country from the destructive effects of seasonal flooding.
The new package would be distributed through non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to improve local readiness in Sindh, where heavy floods are expected.
Strengthening early warning systems, assisting with community evacuations, identifying families at risk, pre-positioning necessary supplies, protecting animals, and setting up evacuation centers are the main objectives of the funding.
