LONDON: Following a devastating earthquake that devastated towns and left families in mourning, Britain has pledged £1 million in emergency aid to support people in Afghanistan.
In an effort to prevent the funds from ending up in the hands of the Taliban government, the UK will work with international partners to ensure that essential medical services and supplies reach those who need them the most.
As rescue efforts began, authorities reported that Sunday’s tragedy, one of Afghanistan’s biggest earthquakes, had killed over 1,000 people and injured at least 3,251.
United States aid cuts have led to a reduction in funds for Afghanistan, which has hindered the nation’s response to the situation.
