In an effort to strengthen their defense and weapons cooperation, Britain said on Thursday that it has inked a 350 million pound ($468 million) deal to provide the Indian army with lightweight missiles made in the UK.
The news was made while British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was in Mumbai, meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they praised the potential of their months-old trade agreement’s commercial ties.
The British government stated in its statement on the defense deal that 700 jobs will be secured at a factory that presently produces the same weapons for Ukraine as a result of the new contract for Northern Ireland-based Thales Lightweight Multirole Missiles.
“The agreement opens the door to a more extensive and intricate arms relationship between India and the United Kingdom.
