UK weather: Parts of the nation are covered with snow, schools are closed, and commuters must deal with delays.

After schools were closed and travel was impeded due to weather warnings, more snow, ice, and rain are forecast.

As snow fell in several parts of the UK, including northern England and North Wales, dozens of schools closed and there were delays on roads and trains. More snowfall is predicted.

On Thursday, there was snowfall in some parts of the United Kingdom. The Met Office recorded 10cm of snow in Kirkwall, Orkney, and 9cm in Bingley, West Yorkshire.

As a result, several schools closed in North Wales and Northern England, and delays on the roads and trains were to be expected.

Although the amber weather warning that was in effect throughout the Pennines on Thursday has passed, there are still snow and yellow rain warnings in effect for the four countries.

Potential injuries from falls on icy surfaces could be observed, along with power outages and delays in transport.

In Yorkshire, Derbyshire, and Wrexham, snow fell very swiftly, but the worst of the weather is still to come, according to Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon.

“Through [Thursday] morning and this afternoon, you’re more likely to see accumulations,” he stated. “The snow risk tomorrow is moving much further north, and it will be a bit of a drier day.”

“Thick and fast” snowfall is expected, according to Shingi Mararike, the North of England correspondent for Sky News, who is now in Harden, West Yorkshire.

“The scenes are postcard-like and picturesque but that does come with its dangers,” he stated.
