LONDON/ISLAMABAD: Following a long inquiry, the Islamabad Police concluded it did not uncover enough evidence to classify businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor as an absconder.
According to a police statement, the evidence indicated that Mr Zahoor was not in hiding when he filed a FIR at the Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad against his former wife Sophia Mirza (Khush Bakht Mirza), Shehzad Akbar, and others.
The Islamabad Police stated: “Reports in the media surfaced that during the registration of the FIR, Umar Zahoor Farooq was an absconder.” Investigation indicated that Umar Farooq Zahoor was not an absconder at the time, nor is he now. A case was launched against Umar Farooq Zahoor with the FIA, and warrants were issued.
“During the examination into the court order, it was discovered that the FIA had not issued any red warrants. During the investigation, it was discovered that some FIA personnel and Khush Bakht Mirza prepared phony red warrants. Following this, Umar Farooq Zahoor filed an application with the PS Secretariat for the case’s registration, which resulted in case number 465. The police dropped the case and forwarded it to the FIA because the probe was outside of their authority. Following the dismissal of the cases, Umar Farooq Zahoor reapplied to register the case. As a result, a case number 156 was filed with the Secretariat police station for fraud and extortion.”
