In the first House of Representatives visit to Beijing in six years, a group of US lawmakers met with Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun on Monday. The goal of the talks was to strengthen military-to-military communication and other exchanges.
Democratic US Representative Adam Smith of Washington, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, which is in charge of the US military and defense department, headed the bipartisan group.
“We are the first delegation from the United States House of Representatives since 2019 and we feel strongly that there should be more frequent visits and more robust conversation,” Smith stated to Dong.
