CHICAGO/WASHINGTON: As his government readied itself to send military forces to the streets of the third-largest US city, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded that the Democratic governor of Illinois and the mayor of Chicago be imprisoned.
Despite being well-known opponents of Trump’s immigration crackdown and the employment of National Guard troops in Democratic-leaning communities, neither Illinois Governor JB Pritzker nor Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have been charged with any crimes.
Trump’s demand that the two elected officials be imprisoned coincides with the scheduled court appearance of former FBI Director James Comey, another prominent political foe, who is facing criminal charges that have been widely criticized as being weak.
