WASHINGTON: US Republican Senator Marco Rubio filed a measure on Friday that would cut off security support to Pakistan due to the country’s purported threats to India.
A report on Pakistan’s “use of offensive force, including through terrorism and proxy groups against India,” is mandated by the US-India Defence Cooperation Act.
“Bar Pakistan from receiving assistance if it is found to have sponsored terrorism against India” is another goal of the proposed measure.
In order to offset China’s influence, Senator Rubio also suggested fortifying the US-India alliance, arguing that it is critical to improve the strategic military, political, and economic ties with New Delhi.
With the passage of this bill, India will be able to respond more effectively to challenges to its territorial integrity and receive the required security backing.Regarding technological transfers, Senator Rubio’s bill would grant India the same status as other allies of the United States, including Japan, Israel, South Korea, and other members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Additionally, he proposes that India be granted a restricted exemption from the Countering America’s Adversaries Through restrictions Act (CAATSA) restrictions.
It should be emphasized that the US government is able to apply penalties on nations who purchase significant defense hardware from Russia thanks to the strict CAATSA statute.
