In July 2023, the army brought 14 accusations against Mr. King related to the unauthorized crossing. As part of a plea agreement, he intends to admit guilt to five crimes, including assault and desertion.
The Army will withdraw and dismiss him if he pleads not guilty to the remaining offenses, according to a statement released by his attorney Franklin Rosenblatt to News.
The hearing for his plea and sentence is scheduled for September 20 at a military base in Fort Bliss, Texas.

In an email, Mr. Rosenblatt stated, “Travis’s guilty plea will be entered at a general court-martial.”

There he will enter a plea of guilty, answer questions from a military judge, explain what he did, and receive his sentence. The attorney continued, “Mr. King is appreciative of the support he received from his friends and family, as well as from everyone who did not “pre-judge” him based on the accusations.
The plea agreement calls for the dismissal of some charges, including possession of child pornography.
Pvt. King joined the army in January 2021 and entered North Korea while on a unit rotation via South Korea.
He had been detained in South Korea for two months before that event on suspicion of assaulting two people and kicking a police car.
