Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. Kushner’s involvement in the recent scandal regarding Fifa head Gianni Infantino and an abandoned plan before the sale. How the Buss Family Owned the Lakers I am appreciative to Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff for allowing me to be a part of this chapter. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

USA’s World Cup Dream Ends Against Belgium

The United States men’s national team ended its World Cup campaign with a disappointing 4 to 1 loss to Belgium in the Round of 16. After producing several exciting performances earlier in the tournament, the team failed to deliver when it mattered most. Supporters praised the squad for an entertaining World Cup run, but many also believed the tournament ended with a missed opportunity.

The American team entered the knockout stage full of confidence. Many players compete regularly in Europe’s biggest football leagues, and expectations remained high throughout the competition. However, Belgium controlled the match from the opening whistle and exposed weaknesses in the American side.

Pochettino Admits Team Was Second Best

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino admitted after the match that his players never found their rhythm. He accepted that Belgium outplayed his side and said the coaching staff would carefully review the performance to understand what went wrong.

Midfielder Tyler Adams also expressed his disappointment. He admitted the squad expected to go much further in the tournament and accepted that the team failed to reach its goals.

Although the result was painful, both Pochettino and Adams stressed that the experience could help the team improve before future international competitions.

Balogun Decision Sparks Debate

One of the biggest talking points before kickoff involved striker Folarin Balogun. His suspension was overturned after outside pressure led officials to review the red card decision, allowing him to return to the lineup.

The decision immediately divided football analysts and fans. Some experts argued that selecting Balogun created unnecessary distractions before such an important match. Others believed the controversy had little impact on the final result because Belgium simply performed at a much higher level.

Regardless of differing opinions, the incident became one of the tournament’s most discussed stories surrounding the American team.

Experts Point to Tactical and Performance Issues

Several football analysts believed the USA struggled because Belgium controlled possession, dictated the pace, and punished defensive mistakes. They argued that the Americans looked confident earlier in the tournament but failed to match one of Europe’s strongest teams.

Commentators also questioned some tactical decisions and felt the squad lacked creativity in attack once Belgium took control. The defeat reminded many observers that the United States still has work to do before consistently competing with the world’s top football nations.

Despite the disappointing exit, many experts praised the team’s progress during the tournament. Strong group stage performances, exciting attacking football, and passionate fan support showed how much the sport continues to grow across the United States.

What Comes Next for the USA?

Although the World Cup ended earlier than many supporters expected, the tournament highlighted both the strengths and weaknesses of the current squad. The experience gives the coaching staff valuable lessons to build a stronger team for future competitions.

The United States possesses talented young players, experienced professionals, and an ambitious coaching setup. If the team learns from this defeat and improves its consistency, it could become a stronger contender on the international stage in the coming years.
