Volcom and Boardriders are making a strong comeback in Hawaii, reopening two flagship retail locations on O’ahu. This move highlights their continued commitment to surf culture, which has long shaped both brands.
Boardriders Flagship Reopens in Waikīkī
Boardriders will relaunch its U.S. flagship store in Waikīkī, thanks to a partnership between Authentic and BR Japan. Located just steps from the Duke Kahanamoku statue, the 7,000-square-foot store will serve as a global destination for fans of Action and Outdoor brands. Visitors can explore collections from Quiksilver, Billabong, Volcom, Roxy, and RVCA.
“Our store is located at the birthplace of surfing, a historic and iconic spot,” said Sammy Yoo, president of BR Japan. “Therefore, we want this flagship to feel authentic. The imagery we showcase, from early Waikīkī surf culture to iconic athlete moments, celebrates the past while also inspiring the future.”
Volcom Returns to Haleiwa on the North Shore
Meanwhile, Volcom is reestablishing its presence on O’ahu’s North Shore with the reopening of its Haleiwa store. This effort is led by Authentic in partnership with The Levy Group and longtime Hawaii retailer Cycle City.
“Reopening Volcom’s Haleiwa store is a major milestone,” said Louis Levy, president of The Levy Group. “Hawaii has always been central to Volcom’s story. Additionally, by partnering with a team that shares our energy and authenticity, we can better support our athletes, customers, and the local community.”
The store is only six and a half miles from Volcom’s iconic houses at Pipeline. As a result, it strengthens Volcom’s connection to Hawaii’s surf culture.
Authentic’s Global Retail Strategy
In fact, Authentic acquired Boardriders from Oaktree Capital Management in 2023, adding Quiksilver, Billabong, Roxy, DC Shoes, RVCA, Element, VonZipper, and Honolua to its portfolio. Similarly, the company acquired Volcom from Kering in 2019.
Since these acquisitions, Authentic has focused on expanding Action and Outdoor sports retail globally, partnering with local experts to preserve each brand’s heritage. For example, the Hawaii reopenings follow 15 new store launches across Western Europe and contribute to more than 20 retail locations opened with partners worldwide.
