A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office for parts of northern England, including Middlesbrough, Carlisle, Scarborough, and Lancaster.
The alert went into effect at noon and will remain in effect until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Drivers and passengers on public transportation have been advised to plan for extended travel times, and houses and buildings may sustain damage from floods.
The Met Office also issued a warning about the possibility of lightning strikes causing harm to structures and buildings.
For certain areas of Scotland, a separate yellow rain warning that was issued on Tuesday is still in effect.
The notice was issued at lunchtime and will stay in force until Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
It is urged that drivers and passengers on public transportation allow extra time for their journeys, and that floods may cause damage to homes and other structures.

A secondary yellow rain warning that was issued on Tuesday is still in effect for several parts of Scotland.
