ISLAMABAD: Asif Ali Zardari was sworn in as Pakistan’s 14th president on Sunday, and many people are wondering who will be the country’s first lady.
Zardari’s youngest daughter, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, accompanied him to the President’s House in Islamabad for his oath-taking ceremony yesterday, according to The News.
This became more pertinent when Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, the eldest daughter, tagged Aseefa in a tweet on Sunday, showing her accompanying her father to the oath-taking ceremony.
The text read: “From accompanying President Asif Zardari to all of his court hearings to fighting for his release from jail — now by his side as First Lady of Pakistan” and included Aseefa’s name at the conclusion.
A first lady is the president’s wife, although in this case, President Zardari is widowed after his wife, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was assassinated in 2007.
Since then, the president has not remarried, and the title of first lady remained vacant during his first time as president, which lasted from 2008 to 2013.
However, this time is different, as Aseefa was a teenager during her father’s first term as head of state, and she is now 31.
