LAHORE: According to sources close to News, star batsman and previous skipper Babar Azam is reportedly being considered for the captaincy once more.
They said that Babar, who returned to the nation following his Umrah, might have a meeting with representatives of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) prior to departing for the Abbottabad training camp located near Kakul.
According to sources close to the star batter, who have confirmed the rumors, the former captain has not decided whether to accept the potential captaincy offer. They also mentioned that the 29-year-old would “take up” various concerns if he were to be granted the important position.
The rumors stem from remarks made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during last week’s news conference, in which he stated that the team’s captain would be chosen by the seven-member selection committee.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi will remain the captain or there would be a new skipper, this decision will be taken after deliberations,” the head of the PCB stated.
This development coincides with a significant reorganization of the national squad following the team’s disappointing results in the 2023 Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, which finally led to Babar’s departure as captain of the team in all three formats.
