In response to the latest jab from her Sindh counterpart Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, stated that the relief was not a “folly” as the government continues to be criticized for the Rs45 billion power subsidy.
Under a plan for power subsidies for consumers consuming 201 to 500 units, the government, led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), proposed a reduction of Rs14 per unit in electricity bills for the months of August and September.
The ruling parties, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), as well as the party’s political rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticized the decision, calling it a temporary fix and acting solely for show.In the most recent exchange of words, the chief ministers of Sindh and Punjab, Maryam and Murad Ali Shah, engaged in a verbal sparring match. The PPP mainstay claimed on Monday that the decision was “folly” and that he was unsure of how to react to such “impractical announcements”.
