Wunmi Mosaku has earned an Oscar nomination for her role as Annie in Sinners, a huge milestone in her acting career.
Growing up on a Manchester estate, Mosaku discovered her passion for acting early. She loved the 1980s musical Annie and watched it every day after school.
“I told my mum and sister I didn’t want to do maths or economics, I wanted to act,” Mosaku said on The Graham Norton Show.
She Googled the cast of her favorite film to learn how actors made it. One name stood out: Albert Finney. He grew up nearby in Salford and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
That was the first time Mosaku had heard of drama school. She auditioned for RADA, got in, and says it changed her life.
Her hard work is now being recognized worldwide. Mosaku received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for playing Hoodoo priestess Annie in Sinners.
