Mamdani faced criticism from conservative media and even former President Donald Trump over his policies and his Muslim background. But the attacks didn’t stop him—his message of change and hope clearly resonated with New Yorkers, who celebrated his victory across the city.
Leaders from around the world also took notice. Former President Bill Clinton congratulated Mamdani on X, wishing him success in making New York “better, fairer, and more affordable.”
British MP Jeremy Corbyn called the win “seismic,” praising the grassroots energy behind Mamdani’s campaign. California Governor Gavin Newsom said the result sent a strong message, pointing to the high voter turnout and the historic nature of the election.
Other politicians are already inspired by Mamdani. Zack Polanski, leader of England’s Green Party, said he hopes to adopt the same focus on inequality that Mamdani championed during his campaign.
Mamdani’s victory is being celebrated not just in New York; he is a symbol of progress, hope, and the power of grassroots politics.
