PARIS: Using modeling to anticipate the number before official data is revealed, scientists projected Wednesday that approximately 16,500 deaths in European cities this summer were caused by rising temperatures brought on by human-induced climate change.
Without waiting months or years to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, the speedily generated report is the most recent attempt by climate and health researchers to immediately connect the number of deaths during heatwaves to global warming.
