KARACHI: The city saw its second warmest night of 2024 with a temperature of 32°C, leaving residents of the metropolis oppressively hot.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city’s usual temperature in July is 27.9°C. Tuesday night was the second-hottest day of the year, after July 1 when the temperature reached 32°C.
The Met Office predicted last week that temperatures will rise to between 37°C and 38°C over the course of the next two to three days.
It had, however, ruled out the possibility of another heatwave in the metropolis.
Furthermore, Karachi is predicted to see hot, muggy weather with maximum anticipated temperatures due to the sea breeze ceasing.
However, the PMD has predicted significant rain and thunderstorms for Karachi’s suburbs today, so there may be some respite for the city’s residents after all.
The prediction of rain follows the prediction made on Tuesday by meteorologist Jawad Memon, who stated that thunderstorms may form in Karachi’s north, north-east, and north-west neighborhoods between now and July 18.
The weather specialist stated, “Moist winds coming from the Arabian Sea may cause clouds to form after afternoon.”
