King Charles III and Queen Camilla have completed their four day visit to the United States. They said farewell to President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump as the trip came to an end.
The visit highlighted the long standing relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. It also took place ahead of the US 250th independence anniversary.
Tribute at the 9/11 Memorial
The royal couple visited the National September 11 Memorial in New York. They laid a bouquet of flowers with a handwritten note in tribute to the victims.
They also met families of those who lost their lives and spoke with first responders who took part in rescue operations. Serving emergency personnel also attended the ceremony.
Cultural engagements in New York
Queen Camilla visited the New York Public Library during a literary event hosted by her charity The Queen’s Reading Room. She met public figures including Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour.
King Charles III visited Harlem Grown, a community focused organisation in Upper Manhattan. He met staff, volunteers, and local families during the visit.
Later, Queen Camilla and King Charles attended an event at Rockefeller Center. The gathering marked 50 years of The King’s Trust. Singer Lionel Richie joined as a global ambassador for the organisation.
State dinner and White House programme
The royal couple attended a formal state dinner at the White House. President Donald Trump praised the relationship between the two countries and called it a unique friendship.
He also spoke about the King’s address to Congress and shared light moments during the evening. The King responded with remarks that included humour about White House renovations and historical references.
Earlier in the visit, King Charles addressed the US Congress. Lawmakers and senior officials welcomed him with applause. His speech followed the historic appearance of Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.
The programme also included a flyover and formal receptions hosted at the White House. The royal couple participated in multiple ceremonial and diplomatic engagements throughout the visit.
