Major shake up in the professional team
The popular dance competition Strictly Come Dancing has confirmed a big change to its professional line up ahead of the new season. Five well known dancers have left the show as it prepares for a refreshed series.
Karen Hauer steps away after 14 years on the show. She first joined in 2012 and became one of the most recognisable professionals. She reached the final in earlier seasons with celebrity partners Mark Wright and Jamie Laing. Karen said earlier this year that she felt it was the right time to close this chapter and focus on new opportunities.
Other professionals who have left
Along with Karen Hauer, four other professionals have also exited the show.
1 Gorka Marquez
2 Nadiya Bychkova
3 Luba Mushtuk
4 Michelle Tsiakkas
The production team has not yet announced who will replace them.
Returning professionals confirmed
Fifteen of last year’s professional dancers will return for the upcoming season. The show will also introduce new international talent to bring fresh energy and performance styles to the ballroom.
The team behind the show has said the mix of returning dancers and new faces will create a stronger and more dynamic competition.
Judges and hosting update
The judging panel will stay the same. Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke will all return.
There is still uncertainty around the hosting team. No official update has been shared about replacements for Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.
What this means for the new season
The new season is shaping up as a period of transition. Long standing professionals are leaving while new dancers prepare to join. The core judging team remains stable, but changes in the presenting team are still expected.
